Students Rights Promise

Student Rights and Responsibilities

You have the right to be treated with dignity and respect.

You have the right not to be discriminated against because of: Age, Sex, Race, Religion, Sexual Orientation, Medical Condition, or Disability.

You have the right to review your records with your therapist, and to have your health and treatment information kept private and confidential.

You have the right to be actively involved in your care and education.  To participate in the selection of goals, and methods of treatment including the use of medications.

You have the right to be free from:

  • Abuse
  • Neglect
  • Exploitation
  • Coercion
  • Manipulation
  • Retaliation for submitting a complaint to the department or another entity.
  • Discharge or transfer, threat of discharge or transfer, or for reasons unrelated to my treatment needs.
  • Treatment that involves the denial of: Food; The opportunity to sleep; The opportunity to use the toilet; Restraint or seclusion, of any form, is used as a means of coercion, discipline, convenience, or retaliation.

You have the right to religious representation and worship with the approval of your parent/guardian.

You have the right to communication, to write and receive mail approved by your parent/guardian, and to have phone privileges based on parent/guardian approval and in accordance with level privileges.

You have the right to be educated and reside in a smoke-free environment.

You have the right to a grievance any time you feel that your rights may have been violated, or you feel you have been mistreated or treated unfairly.


  • Participate in all activities including academics and all educational groups and opportunities and when determined beneficial individual, family, and group therapy sessions.
  • Do what is asked of me and do my share of the work.
  • Willingly accept rewards for positive behavior.
  • Willingly accept the consequences of negative behavior.
  • Avoid contact with persons outside this program unless approved by my parent/guardian.

I accept full responsibility for my actions under all conditions.  I also agree to aid other students at the school in behaving responsibly.

I acknowledge that the supplies I have received are mine during the program and it is my responsibility to take care of them.  If something is lost, discarded, or stolen, I will be charged to replace it or I will learn to live without it

I agree to assist in designing my personal goals and to work on the goals I have chosen

I agree to cooperate and show respect for the other students and staff and their personal belongings and school equipment.

I agree to abide by the standards of the program.  This means high standards of honor, integrity, morality, and abstinence from alcohol, tobacco, drugs of any kind, and foul or abusive language.

I agree to maintain good hygiene.  I will be responsible for washing my clothes, body, and cooking utensils to avoid health problems and not to be offensive to other participants.

I agree that personal information shared by others and myself during my stay at Re-Creation is confidential and I will not disclose that information to anyone.

I will adhere to all policies of the program, including the dress code.

I have read the above rules and acknowledge they outline my rights and responsibilities as a resident of Re-Creation Retreat.  Failure to follow these rules could result in extended time at Re-Creation or consequences as determined by the staff.  I have had all my questions answered concerning these rights and responsibilities.
